I’ve Got a New Web Site.. Where Are the Visitors?

You’ve got a sparkling new site, but, no-one to see it. Wasn’t Google supposed to send floods of visitors your way?

It Takes Time

With any new site it takes time for the site to be indexed by Google.

It Takes Trust

Google has to have ‘trust’ in the site that it isn’t scammy or harmful in any other way to it’s search users, and trust is something that is built over time.

It Takes Work

The best way you can ensure that the site gains in ‘visibility’ in the search engines over time is by ensuring that quality, relevant sites link to it (links from scammy or irrelevant sites actually harm your placement). So it’s a good idea to try and get interviews, reviews, news items, etc about you and your products in relevent publications - online and off - maybe write guest articles for other sites. These are the kind of things that will really help.

Unfortunately, on the internet, it’s not a case of ‘build it and they will come’. There’s no ‘foot-traffic’ passing by - you have to actively solicit visits.

It Takes Content

The other key is depth, regularity, and quality of content on the site.

Google likes sites that update regularly with interesting, original content. A blog gives you the means to regularly add good quality content to the site.

Think of it This Way:

You wouldn’t print 10,000 brochures and leave them lying in a warehouse - don’t leave your website hidden in the same way.

1 Secret of Growing Traffic to Your Site

I’m going to let the cat out of the bag..

..are you ready for this?

.. here goes..

Fresh Content!

That simple? You didn’t think it would involve midnight ceremonies, salt pentagrams, and live goats did you? ;-)

Why Fresh Content?

  1. It gives people a reason to return: ‘I wonder if they’ve got any interesting new stuff?’
  2. It increases your exposure on search engines: More Content = More Keywords to be found for
  3. It provides more things for your visitors to talk about/share with their friends

What Sort of Content?

  1. Tell your visitors something that they didn’t know before
  2. Teach your visitors how to do something useful
  3. Aim to provoke a reaction: Make them laugh, or, prompt a discussion

Where To Add Fresh Content:

  1. A Blog (like this one)
  2. A Latest News section
  3. A Case Studies/Satisfied Clients section
